This weekend The Hoop Group will host it's third grassroots AAU tournament this spring. The Southern Invitational will be held this weekend in Hampton, Virginia. The Hoop Group has already held two great tournaments this Spring in Pittsburgh and Providence. Traditionally the Southern Invitational is one of the top tournaments of the spring season and this years tournament will be loaded with talent once again. The 17 and under division features two teams, Team Final and DC Assualt who are part of our Super Seven Rankings. The talented teams will not stop there as teams such as: CP3 All-Stars (NC), Cecil Kirk (MD), God's Glory (MD), NJ ABC, and Youth Interlock (PA) will also be in attendance.
The 16 and under age group will also feature some of the top teams on the East Coast as well. I am looking forward to watching Team Final at full strength. In Pittsburgh this talented team was without some of its big time stars like: Rakeem Christmas (North Catholic) Malcolm Gilbert (Academey New Church) and Savon Goodman (ANC). The talent in the 16 and under bracket will not stop there as other top teams such as: DC Assault, D-One Sports (NC), Westchester Hawks (NY), Cecil Kirk (MD), Richmond Squires (VA), and NJ ABC will all be in attendance.
Tournament Notes
- The Hoop Group has switched venues for the tournament this year, instead of being held on the campus of the University of Virginia , this years tournament will be held at the Boo Williams Sports Complex and surrounding high schools.
